Accredit

The letter of credit is the payment guarantee of the buyer's bank in favour of the shop assistant, under the prerau's settlement that this fulfils his duties from the bill of sale.

AWB (Air-Waybill)

Accompanying document of an air shipment made out either directly by the airline or its appointed agent showing all details pertaining to a specific air shipment.

B.A.F. (Bunker adjustment factor)

Accessorial charge to adjust cost fluctuations for fuel.

B/L (Bill of Lading)

A contract of carriage, used by ocean, inland waterway, rail and truck, common carriers, and contract carriers. Variety of B/L’s include an Ocean B/L, a Multimodal B/L, a Uniform B/L, & a Uniform Short B/L. The former two can be negotiable and would carry title to the goods.

Break Bulk

Cargo loaded in bulk inside a vessel as compared to containerised cargo.

Break bulk agent

Agent who receives a consolidated shipment and undertakes to break it into its individual shipments.

Carrier

Company, carrying out the transport of goods.

Cargo

Cargo means any merchandise to be transported by a carrier (aircraft).

CASS (Cargo Accounts Settlement System)

System of accounting and settling accounts between CASS Member Airlines and IATA Cargo Agents.IATA Cargo on the other side.

Charter

Charter either means a chartered airplane or chartered cargo hold (= part charter).

C.A.F. (Currency adjustment factor)

C.F.S. (Container freight station)

Consignee is that person who should receive the shipment according to AWB by the Carrier.

Individual shipments combined as one consignment covered by a Master Air Waybill.

C.Y. (Container Yard)

A container yard is a location where containers may be parked, picked up, or delivered full or empty. The C.Y. may further be a place of loading (stuffing) or unloading and/or where ocean carrier accepts custody and control of cargo.

C/S (Congestion surcharge)

C.S.C. (Container service charge)

DAKOSY

DGR

Regulations for the transport of dangerous goods.

FCL

Door-to-Door full container load.

FCL/LCL

Container load with goods from one sender to more than one consignee.

FCR

Forwarding Agents Certificate of Receipt.

FEU

40' Feet Container-unit. Fourty feet equivalent unit.

FIO

Free In and Out: In this term, free means that the cost of loading and unloading are for the account of the shipper, and not the carrier. In other words, Free In and Out (FIO) means that the loading (in) charges, and unloading (out) charges are free as far as the carrier is concerned

HAWB (House Air-Waybill)

This document covering each individual shipment of a consolidation shows all details pertaining to the air carriage of a consignment. It is issued by the consolidator (= forwarding agent) and also contains relevant instructions to the break-bulk agent at final destination.

IMO

International Maritime Organization: Part of the UN which regulates international navigation and shipping safety through a framework of rules, treaties and regulations.

Incoterms

The purpose of Incoterms is to provide a set of international rules for the interpretation of the most commonly used trade terms in foreign trade. Thus, uncertainties of different interpretations of such terms in different countries can be avoided or at least reduced to a considerable degree.

LCL

Less than Container Load: single shipments loaded together in a collective container.

LCL/LCL

Single shipments from different Senders for different consignees which are packed together in one container at the Container Freight Station and which will be divided again at the place of destination.

LCL/FCL

Container packed with single shipments from single Senders for one consignee.

Letter of credit (L/C)

L/C is a payment guarantee given by purchaser's bank in favour of his supplier on the condition that supplier fulfills all obligations as outlined in the purchase order.

Liner Terms

Liner terms (or full liner terms) are the opposite of Free terms. When you ship liner terms, the carrier is responsible for the loading and unloading of the cargo. If you ship LINER-IN, FREE-OUT, then the carrier is responsible for loading, and the shipper is responsible for unloading. FREE-IN, LINER-OUT means the shipper pays for loading, and the carrier pays for the unloading.

MAWB (Master Air-Waybill)

Document issued by the consolidator (= freight forwarder) covering a consolidation and being issued to break-bulk agent at final destination.

Measurement/ weight ratio (Airfreight)

1 cbm = 167 kg

Measurement/ weight ratio (Seafreight)

1 cbm = 1 t

Multimodal Transport

Goods are transported by a minimum of at least two different means of transport.

Notify

Additional address (besides the consignees address) to be notified about the arrival of a shipment.

NCTS

(New Computerized Transit System): It was introduced on the 1st April, 2006 and is a duty if you are an admitted receiver / sender. It allows the processing of the common “Versandverfahren” procedure with help of the electronic data interchange.

NVOCC (Non-Vessel Operating Common Carrier)

An indirect ocean carrier who does not operate vessels, but accomplishes carriage via sub-contract with vessel operating carriers.

OZL (open bonded warehouse)

Were whose final regulation is uncertain, highly loaded goods or goods which are subordinated to contingents can be stored temporarily (partly limits, partly for an unlimited period) undeclared and unpaid tax on one. This is possible in a open customs warehouse.

Certain manipulations are permitted by approval of the duty partly.

  1. 1. The open customs warehouse of FWN will enable to you to leave the stored goods as long as undeclared one, until they reach for the sales or shipping.
  2. For the goods stored from third countries the duty deliveries become due therefore only by the actual wide disposal.
  3. In certain cases high interest advantages can be achieved in this manner by the delay of the duty deliveries and the taxes.
  4. Provided that goods are explained once more in third countries, the duty deliveries can be totally saved.

The 4-figure number which was awarded by "United Nations Committee of Experts on the Transport of Dangerous Goods" to describe a substance or a group of substances.

Warsaw Convention

On 12th October, 1929 at Warsaw an international agreement has been signed for the Unification of Certain Rules Relating to International Carriage by Air. This agreement was amended by the Hague Protocol in 1955 and is still valid until today.

W/M (Weight or Measurement)

Seafreight calculation based on the weight or measurement. Sea cargo calculation based on measure or weight - the higher value is taken.
